In Hide the Havarti, a new microgame from Rattlebox Games, players are French fromagers (cheese makers) trying to hide contraban Dutch cheese from a snooping inspecteur. As the inspecteur stalks from room to room, his nose twitching with the scent of cheese, fromagers frantically swap room tiles in an effort to confuse, bewilder, and swindle him.
In each round of Hide the Havarti, players select twelve room tiles and four cheese tiles, then lay the tiles out in a four-by-four grid, face down. The inspecteur moves and searches while the fromagers swap the rooms around to keep the inspecteur confused. In addition, some of the rooms have special actions that occur when the inspecteur uncovers them, and the inspecteur has a couple cards that provide surprises of their own. The round ends when all four cheeses have been found or the inspecteur has searched four times in a row without success. Inspecteurs get one point for each cheese they found, fromagers get one for each cheese they hid. Each player takes two turns as the inspecteur in this surprisingly-complex micro-game that lasts from 15-25 minutes. How well will you do, when it's your turn to Hide the Havarti? |
